Die angeblich noch 2022 für World of Warcraft erscheinende Erweiterung Dragonflight hat in den vergangenen Wochen eine recht umfangreiche geschlossene Alpha durchgemacht. In dieser Zeit durften eingeladene Tester eine Reihe von Inhalten testen und einen Großteil des Addons im Vorfeld ausprobieren. Gestern Abend hat diese Testphase zur Freude vieler Spieler nun die nächste Phase erreicht und einen Schritt weiter in Richtung einer baldigen Veröffentlichung getan.

Gestern Abend haben die Entwickler von Blizzard Entertainment die geschlossene Alpha von Dragonflight nämlich beendet und diese Testphase ganz offiziell in eine geschlossene Beta umgewandelt. Aktuell gibt es noch keine Details dazu, ob weitere Tester in diese Testphase zugelassen wurden. Da Betas für gewöhnlich aber deutlich umfangreicher als Alphas ausfallen, sollten Spieler in der nahen Zukunft mit deutlich mehr Einladungen in diesen Test rechnen.

Was den Umfang der Beta betrifft, so stehen den Testern eine Reihe von Inhalten zur Verfügung. Dazu gehören erst einmal das Startgebiet der Dracthyr und alle neuen Zonen der Dracheninseln. Zusätzlich dazu dürfen daran interessierte Tester einen Evoker erstellen, das Drachenreiten komplett ausprobieren, sich mit den vier Pakt-Fraktionen der Inseln anfreunden und alle Dungeons des Addons besuchen. Dazu kommen noch viele kleinere Verbesserungen und Anpassungen an den Klassen, den Berufen und dem Interface des Spiels.

Somit steht den Testern aktuell beinahe das gesamte neue Addon zur Verfügung. Es fehlen eigentlich nur noch der erste Raid der Erweiterung und natürlich die finalen Versionen der verschiedenen Anpassungen an bestehenden Dingen. Diese Neuerungen kommen aber im Verlauf der Zeit und es sollte nicht mehr unbedingt lange dauern, bis die Testphase diesen Punkt erreicht hat. Zumindest sollte die Beta der Erweiterung den Spielern auch irgendwann Raid-Tests in dem ersten Schlachtzug anbieten.

Dieser Sprung von der Alpha zu der Beta ist auf jeden Fall eine gute Nachricht für alle Fans von World of Warcraft. Diese Maßnahme liegt nämlich wunderbar in dem bisher von Fans angenommenen Zeitplan für Dragonflight. Wenn die Entwickler diesem Plan weiterhin folgen und es keine Probleme gibt, dann könnte die Erweiterung tatsächlich noch im Jahr 2022 erscheinen. Der durch ein Leak versprochene Release am 28. November 2022 wäre im Moment durchaus ein realistischer Termin.

The World of Warcraft®: Dragonflight beta test begins today! Over the course of the test, we’ll be inviting community veterans, press, fansites, and friends and family to check out the upcoming expansion and give us feedback.

Players selected to participate* will receive an email invitation directing them to download the game client directly from the Battle.net desktop app. As always, please be aware of phishing attempts—if you’re unsure whether your invitation is legitimate, please log in to your Battle.net account to verify that there is a Dragonflight beta license attached (under Your Game Accounts).

Getting Started

If you’d like to join us in testing Dragonflight, all you need to do is opt in to become a tester. Players who have opted-in can be selected to be a tester, and invitations will go out regularly throughout the test. If you’ve been selected to participate in the beta test, your Battle.net account will already be flagged for access.

  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
  • Run the Battle.net desktop app—it may need to update itself if you haven’t run it recently. If you don’t have the app installed, get started here.
  • Once Battle.net is installed and updated, select World of Warcraft from the list of games.
  • In the Game Version drop-down menu above the Play button, choose the Dragonflight Beta (listed under In Development) option, then click Install.
  • Allow installation to complete, click Play and select any of the available Test Servers.
  • Create a new test character or use the character copy to import your existing Shadowlands character.
  • Enter the game and test the content.
