The 74th annual Emmy Awards are in the books following a tight three-hour telecast on NBC that saw several repeat winners, along with quite a few surprising upsets. (via)

Die vergangenen Wochen über hat die Academy of Television Arts & Sciences eine Reihe von Emmys an unterschiedliche Serien, Mini-Serien, Schauspieler und andere Preisträger verliehen. Diese Phase wurde gestern Abend mit einer dreistündigen Live-Show beendet, die sich wie üblich mit den wichtigsten Kategorien dieser Preisverleihung beschäftigte. Wer gestern Abend einen Preis erhalten hat, der darf wirklich Stolz auf seine jeweilige Leistung und die Arbeit des eigenen Teams sein.

In den vergangenen Jahren gab es bei den Emmys häufig einen dicken Sieger, der sich eine Reihe von Preisen sichern konnte. Solch ein Abräumer fehlt in diesem Jahr und es gibt eine etwas weitere Streuung an Preisträgern. Zusätzlich dazu haben die 20.000 Abstimmenden der Television Academy sich im Jahr 2022 überraschend stark gegen neue Produktionen ausgerichtet. Die meisten Preise gingen an Shows oder Personen, die in der Vergangenheit schon einmal einen Emmy erhalten haben und eine recht sichere Sache darstellen.

Der Preis für das beste Drama ging an die Familiensatire „Succession“ und „Ted Lasso“ erhielt den Preis für die beste Comedy. „Succession“ konnte sich den gleichen Preis bereits im Jahr 2020 sichern und der Sieg von „Ted Lasso“ folgt auf den gleichen Moment aus dem Jahr 2021. Damit haben sich diese alten Shows gegen deutlich neuere und oft auch irgendwie kreativere Serien durchgesetzt. Ansonsten konnte sich der immer amüsante John Oliver mit „Last Week Tonight“ zum mittlerweile siebten Mal in Folge den Preis für die beste Unterhaltungs-Talkshow sichern.

Ein ähnliches Bild zeichnet sich in den Kategorien für die besten Hauptdarsteller aus. Drei von vier dieser Preise gingen an Stars, die diese Preise ebenfalls schon in der Vergangenheit erhalten haben. Dabei handelt es sich für Jason Sudeikis in „Ted Lasso“, Jean Smart in „Hacks“ und Zendaya in „Euphoria“. Die einzige Ausnahme ist der südkoreanische Schauspieler Lee Jung-jae, dessen Leistung in „Squid Game“ ihm den Preis für den besten Drama-Darsteller einbrachte.

Was die Produktionen und Sender mit den meisten Preisen betrifft, so gab es zwar keinen dicken Sieger, aber trotzdem konnten sich einige Preisträger eine etwas größere Menge an Auszeichnungen sichern. Die beste Mini-Serie „The White Lotus“ erhielt zehn Emmys im Jahr 2022 und liegt somit weit über anderen Produktionen. Des Weiteren konnte sich HBO in diesem Jahr mit seinen verschiedenen Produktionen insgesamt 38 Emmys sichern. Da die Plattform in dem vergangenen Jahr einige wirklich gute Shows veröffentlicht hat, ist solch ein Ergebnis keine gewaltige Überraschung.

  1. Wenn man sich das so ansieht, hat man sich aber auch bei der Nominierung schon nicht weit aus dem Fenster gelehnt. Da fehlen meiner bescheidenen Meinung bei etlichen Rubriken andere.

    Gefühlt kommt selbst bei so einem Award keiner mehr mit der extremen Menge des Angebots klar.
