Vor etwas \u00fcber einer Woche war der bekannte Autor Brandon Sanderson bei dem YouTube Kanal The Dusty Wheel zu Gast, um dort gemeinsam auf das Finale der zweiten Staffel der Serienadaption von The Wheel of Time zu reagieren. Mit seiner Reaktion auf diese Folge lieferte Sanderson \u00fcberraschend heftige und durchaus angebrachte Kritik an dieser Serie im Allgemeinen und der Arbeit von Amazon Studios. Dabei beschwerte er sich \u00fcber die fehlende Treue zu der Buchvorlage, dem Vorzug von „coolen Momenten“ vor richtigen Handlungsb\u00f6gen f\u00fcr die Figuren und mehrere extrem dumme Momente, die zuk\u00fcnftiges Material aus anderen B\u00fcchern negativ beeinflussen.<\/p>\n

Auch wenn die Kritik einer bekannten Person an solch einer Produktion bereits einigerma\u00dfen interessant w\u00e4re, so verdient das Ganze in diesem Fall aber besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Brandon Sanderson<\/span> hat nach dem Tod von Robert Jordan n\u00e4mlich die Wheel of Time Saga \u00fcbernommen und mit dem Segen der Witwe die letzten drei B\u00fccher der Reihe verfasst. Aufgrund dieser T\u00e4tigkeit fungiert Sanderson<\/span> derzeit auch als einer der Ratgeber der Serie, der die Drehb\u00fccher fr\u00fchzeitig lesen und Feedback dazu liefern darf. Der Autor zeigte sich frustriert dar\u00fcber, dass Showrunner Rafe<\/span> Judkin<\/span> seine Einw\u00fcrfe nur selten ber\u00fccksichtigen.<\/p>\n
In diesem Fall \u00fcbt also der von Amazon selbst als Ratgeber angeheuerte Autor der Buchvorlage direkte und vor allem \u00f6ffentliche Kritik daran, wie die Plattform diese Show adaptiert und wie das Produktionsteam arbeitet. Dieser Umstand alleine d\u00fcrfte sich negativ auf den Ruf der Show und das an Fans der Vorlage vermittelte Bild auswirken. Amazon Studios d\u00fcrfte aktuell nicht wirklich zufrieden mit dem oft auf Buchtreue beharrenden Sanderson<\/span> sein. Es w\u00e4re gut m\u00f6glich, dass er aufgrund dieses Vorfalls sogar seinen Posten verliert. Allerdings w\u00fcrde auch dieser Schritt den Fans sicherlich nicht unbedingt gut gefallen.<\/p>\n

„The show is doing a lot of things fantastically, and it\u2019s really good at scenes. But one of the things I keep arguing for is, \u2018What are the arcs\u2019? What is the theme? And arc and theme seems to fall by the wayside for cool scenes quite a bit, and that worries me. Particularly going into book four, where its the strongest Wheel of Time book and that\u2019s partially because of themes of self-sacrifice and things like this.“<\/p>\n
„I\u2019m sorry, using the dagger on a spear is the same thing as using it. You\u2019re touching it\u2026it\u2019s a metaphor for using the darkness and accepting it. It\u2019s a metaphor for turning to the Dark Side\u2026it misses the whole point. Mat\u2019s arc is not about weaponizing his darkness. That\u2019s Perrin\u2019s arc, and finding that balance. Mat\u2019s arc is very different from that, and doing this just bothers me. I don\u2019t feel it was built up through the season that his arc would be about weaponizing his own darkness, and walking that line.“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
