In a flurry of tweets, Dean „Iksar“ Ayala, one of the main designers on the Hearthstone team, laid out his idea for a new Ranking System for Hearthstone Arena. The system would look at Average Arena Wins, as well as classes played and how well you did on each class. (via<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Der direkt an der Entwicklung von Hearthstone beteiligte Spieleentwickler Dean „Iksar“ Ayala war am vergangenen Wochenende sehr aktiv auf Twitter unterwegs und hat dort einige interessante Tweets zu der Arena von Hearthstone ver\u00f6ffentlicht. In seinen Nachrichten erkl\u00e4rte Dean „Iksar“ Ayala seine Idee f\u00fcr ein neues Ranking-System f\u00fcr die Arena, welches er gerne in das Spiel implementieren w\u00fcrde. Derzeit sammelt er auf Twitter<\/a> das Feedback von der Spielerschaft, um m\u00f6gliche Anpassungen vorzunehmen.<\/p>\n

Dieses neue System basiert im Grunde auf drei verschiedenen Werten: Den durchschnittlichen Siegen in der Arena, einem neuen Klassenwert und dem dadurch errechneten Rating f\u00fcr die Arena. Der Klassenwert ist dabei dann die Summe der besten Runs mit jeder der 10 Klassen des Spiels. Das Rating in der Arena ist die Menge der durchschnittlichen Siege pro Durchlauf multipliziert mit dem Klassenwert eines Spielers. Dadurch entsteht dann eine Wertung, die leicht im Spiel zu verstehen ist und sich ohne gr\u00f6\u00dferen Aufwand direkt mit anderen Spielern vergleichen l\u00e4sst. Ein Rest der Wertung k\u00f6nnte alle 2 bis 4 Monate stattfinden, sodass die Fans der Arena erneut an neuen Werten arbeiten k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n

Dean<\/span> „<\/span>Iksar<\/span>„<\/span> Ayala<\/span> mag diese Idee so sehr, weil sie die Spieler dazu motiviert m\u00f6glichst alle Klassen von Hearthstone<\/span> in der Arena zu spielen. Wer bestimmte Klassen meidet, der schneidet automatisch schlechter ab. Zus\u00e4tzlich dazu schreiten die Spieler in solch einem System beinahe dauerhaft voran und man sieht direkt im Interface, wie man seine eigene Wertung verbessern kann. Spieler k\u00f6nnen sofort erkennen, ob sie ihre durchschnittlichen Siege verbessern oder mehr Siege mit einer Klasse sammeln m\u00fcssen. Zus\u00e4tzlich dazu k\u00f6nnte es Bonus-Punkte f\u00fcr erfolgreiche Runs mit 12 Siegen geben, sodass den Spielern selbst bei \u201ebeendeten\u201c Klassen noch immer ein Grund zum Weiterspielen geboten wird.<\/p>\n

Die Arena von Hearthstone<\/span> k\u00f6nnte durchaus ein richtiges System f\u00fcr das Ranking der Spieler vertragen. Das Ganze einfach nur \u00fcber durchschnittliche Siege laufen zu lassen, ist nicht unbedingt aussagekr\u00e4ftig genug. Ich mag die Idee von Dean<\/span> „<\/span>Iksar<\/span>„<\/span> Ayala<\/span> auf jeden Fall, weil sie die Vielfalt bei der Klassenwahl steigert und in den Vordergrund stellt. Hoffentlich baut er den Plan weiter aus und teilt seine Gedanken mit dem restlichen Team. Weitere Belohnungen durch solch ein Ranking w\u00e4ren auch eine tolle Sache!<\/p>\n

ARENA PLAYERS<\/span><\/p>\n

Been trying to brainstorm what a fun ranking system could be for arena. Goals are for it to have forward progression but still have the best players come out on top.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pitch:<\/span><\/p>\n

Pitch uses 3 numbers. A rating (what is displayed to you and you are ranked on), your average wins per run, and your ‚class score‘.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arena Rating = AvgWins X ClassScore<\/span><\/p>\n

AvgWins = Your average wins per run<\/span><\/p>\n

ClassScore = Your highest win total on each class added together<\/span><\/p>\n

Example 1 – Very Casual, Plays lots of classes<\/span><\/p>\n

Player plays 10 runs. Gets 3 wins every time. Plays 1 run of each class.<\/span><\/p>\n

AvgWins = 3<\/span>
\nClassScore = 30 (3X10)<\/span>
\nArena Rating = 90 (3X30)<\/span><\/p>\n

Example 2 – Average Engaged Player, Plays limited range of classes<\/span><\/p>\n

Player plays 30 runs. Gets 4 Wins every time. Only plays 5 of 10 classes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avg Wins = 4<\/span>
\nClass Score = 20 (4X5)<\/span>
\nArena Rating = 80 (4X20)<\/span><\/p>\n

EXAMPLE 3 – Hardcore and Skilled Player<\/span><\/p>\n

Player plays 60 Runs. Gets 7 Wins every time. Only plays 8 of 10 classes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avg Wins = 7<\/span>
\nClass Score = 56<\/span>
\nArena Rating = 392<\/span><\/p>\n

EXAMPLE 4 – The best players<\/span><\/p>\n

Player plays 100 runs with an average of 8 wins per run. Gets 12 wins on 5 classes but has a best run of 10 on the other 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avg Wins = 8<\/span>
\nClass Score = 110<\/span>
\nArena Rating = 880<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the reasons I like this system is that it encourages class diversity, has mostly forward progression, but the best players will still ultimately have the best ratings so long as they choose a diverse subset of classes.<\/span><\/p>\n

We’d probably give you 10 points per win so ratings are in the 1000’s rather than the hundreds. This way they’d look more similar to BG\/Merc numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’d also consider giving ‚bonus points‘ for 12-win runs. Meaning your score for an individual class could go higher than 12. This way there is still minor incentive to play classes you’ve gone 12 with.<\/span><\/p>\n

We’d find a way to display your score with each class in the client so you can track it. A benefit is that if we just use a rating that lives in our DB, we can do live updated rankings like we do with constructed\/bg.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reset time is probably 2 or 4 months. Less important to figure out those details now.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reason I don’t like using a traditional rating system is that there is no skill matchmaking in arena. This means that players would go 5-3 in a run and lose rating sometimes, or go 1-3 and gain rating. Can get confusing.<\/span><\/p>\n

I like having a rating that is more like a score because it’s very clear what you need to do to increase your rating.<\/span><\/p>\n

„Oh I need to play these classes to a higher class score!“<\/span><\/p>\n

„I need to increase my average wins per run, right now it’s 5.1 so getting 6 will help me!“ Let me know what you think or tag an arena player to get their opinion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also open to other suggestions, another way to rank players or the opinion that ranking is unwanted.<\/span><\/p>\n
