But this wasn\u2019t the first time that someone attempted to turn the comics into a project for the screen. (<a href=\"https:\/\/geektyrant.com\/news\/neil-gaiman-admits-he-sabotaged-jon-peters-sandman-movie-by-leaking-its-terrible-script\">via<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Zu Beginn des aktuellen Monats wurde die neue Serie The Sandman auf Netflix ver\u00f6ffentlicht. Diese aktuell aus 11 Folgen bestehende Show basiert auf einem Comic des bekannten Autors Neil <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span>, der stark in die Produktion der Serie involviert war. Auch wenn diese Show die eine oder andere Schw\u00e4che hat, so ist das Ganze aber sowohl als Serie als auch als Adaption ein durchaus gelungener Erfolg.<\/p>\n<p>Interessanterweise war diese Serie aber nicht der erste Versuch einer Adaption der als Vorlage fungierenden Comics. In den 90er Jahren wollte Producer <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Jon<\/span> Peters das Ganze n\u00e4mlich bereits in einen Film verwandeln und die Geschichte auf diese Weise adaptieren. Daf\u00fcr schickte er <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span> wohl sogar ein fertiges Drehbuch, welches dem Autor aber wohl nicht wirklich gefallen hat. In einem Interview mit <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/neil-gaiman-sandman-movie-jon-peters-leak-1235350752\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a> sprach <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span> dar\u00fcber, wie er auf dieses Drehbuch reagiert hat und wie er die Produktion dieser ersten Adaption gezielt sabotierte.<\/p>\n<p>Laut dem Autor war dieses Drehbuch f\u00fcr den Film einfach nur schrecklich und er stuft es noch immer als das schlimmste Drehbuch ein. Damit meinte der Autor nicht nur das schlechteste Drehbuch f\u00fcr The Sandman, sondern das mieseste Drehbuch aller Zeiten. Da die Verantwortlichen aber wohl recht begeistert von der Idee waren, entschied der Autor sich f\u00fcr eine etwas drastische Vorgehensweise.<\/p>\n<p>Er schickte das ihm bereitgestellte Drehbuch f\u00fcr den Film einfach anonym weiter an die Internetseite <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Ain<\/span>\u2019t <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">It<\/span> <span class=\"hiddenGrammarError\">Cool<\/span> News. Diese Plattform verfasste dann selbst\u00e4ndig einen Beitrag dar\u00fcber, wie extrem schlecht das Drehbuch und die Ideen f\u00fcr diese Adaption sind. Danach hatte wohl pl\u00f6tzlich niemand mehr Interesse an dieser Adaption von The Sandman. <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Jon<\/span> Peters wechselte kurz darauf das Projekt und er produzierte den schrecklichen Film <span class=\"hiddenGrammarError\">Wild Wild<\/span> West.<\/p>\n<p>Was die problematischen Ideen f\u00fcr diesen Film betrifft, so listete Neil <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span> einige Schw\u00e4chen auf. Der Autor nannte mechanische Spinnen und <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Lucifer<\/span>, Morpheus und der <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Corinthian<\/span> w\u00e4ren in dieser Fassung identische Drillinge gewesen. Diese drei Br\u00fcder w\u00e4ren dann in einem Wettrennen auf die Jagd nach den drei Objekten von Morpheus gegangen. Das Ziel w\u00e4re es gewesen, die drei Gegenst\u00e4nde vor Mitternacht am letzten Tag des Jahres 1999 zu erbeuten, weil dann das neue Millennium startet und man diesen Moment einbauen wollte. Diese Punkte weichen recht stark von der etablierten Vorlage ab.<\/p>\n<p>Den Beschreibungen von Neil <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span> hat er sich in diesem Punkt auf jeden Fall richtig entschieden. Die Ideen f\u00fcr den Film klingen wirklich schrecklich und als Autor kann man nat\u00fcrlich nicht jede dumme Idee dulden, die die eigene Geschichte zerst\u00f6rt. Durch Netflix konnte <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Gaiman<\/span> seine Geschichte adaptieren und eine Serie abliefern, die zwar etwas von der Vorlage abweicht, aber im Grunde die gleiche Handlung erz\u00e4hlt. Der Erfolg der Show zeigt auf, dass diese Vorgehensweise korrekt war.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Die Aussagen des Autors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA guy in Jon Peters\u2019 office phoned me up and he said, \u2018So Neil, have you had a chance to read the script we sent you?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, yes. Yes, I did. I haven\u2019t read all of it, but I\u2019ve read enough.\u2019 He says, \u2018So, pretty good. Huh?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, no. It really isn\u2019t.\u2019 He said, \u2018Oh, come on. There must have been stuff in there you loved.\u2019 I said, \u2018There was nothing in there I loved. There was nothing in there I liked. It was the worst script that I\u2019ve ever read by anybody. It\u2019s not just the worst Sandman script. That was the worst script I\u2019ve ever been sent.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure if it would\u2019ve been an action movie or quite what it would\u2019ve been. It was a mess. It never got better than a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sent the script to Ain\u2019t It Cool News, which back then was read by people. And I thought, I wonder what Ain\u2019t It Cool News will think of the script that they\u2019re going to receive anonymously. And they wrote a fabulous article about how it was the worst script they\u2019d ever been sent. And suddenly the prospect of that film happening went away. And instead Jon Peters turned his attention to \u2018Wild Wild West.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt had giant mechanical spiders in it\u2026 Lucifer, Morpheus and the Corinthian were identical triplets. They were a family of identical brothers, and it was all a race to see who could get the ruby, the helm and the bag of sand before midnight on 1999, before the new millennium started, because whoever got it would be the winner.
