UK regulators announced a provisional finding that the acquisition wouldn\u2019t harm competition, despite previously suggesting the Xbox maker might need to spin-off the <em>Call of Duty<\/em> business to get the sale approved. (<a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/activision-microsoft-xbox-call-duty-sony-ps5-exclusive-1850261251\">via<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Microsoft arbeitet mittlerweile bereits seit \u00fcber einem Jahr darauf hin, den umstrittenen Publisher <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Activison<\/span> Blizzard zu \u00fcbernehmen. Daf\u00fcr wird der Konzern insgesamt 69 Milliarden USD zahlen, was keine kleine Summe darstellt. Auch wenn diese \u00dcbernahme schon so lange l\u00e4uft und das Thema ausreichend diskutiert wurde, so standen Microsoft bisher aber noch immer einige Beh\u00f6rden im Weg.<\/p>\n<p>Eine dieser Beh\u00f6rden war die britische <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Competition<\/span> <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">and<\/span> Markets Authority (CMA). Diese Organisation war bisher recht skeptisch bez\u00fcglich dieser \u00dcbernahme und erste Sch\u00e4tzungen sprachen sich gegen den Kauf aus. Der Grund f\u00fcr die Zweifel an dem Kauf war das Call of Duty Franchise, welches eine zentrale Rolle in dieser Sache spielt, weil viele Parteien eine Limitierung dieser IP auf die Plattformen von Microsoft f\u00fcrchten. Die CMA brachte daher auch schon eine Option ins Gespr\u00e4ch, die den Verkauf von CoD an eine dritte Partei vorsehen w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n<p>Trotz dieser Bedenken und Zweifel hat die <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Competition<\/span> <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">and<\/span> Markets Authority am gestrigen Freitag \u00fcberraschenderweise eine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cma-narrows-scope-of-concerns-in-microsoft-activision-review\">komplette Kehrwende<\/a> gemacht. In einem vorl\u00e4ufigen Bericht verk\u00fcndete diese britische Beh\u00f6rde, dass die \u00dcbernahme von Activision Blizzard durch Microsoft keine negativen Auswirkungen auf den Wettkampf in der Branche haben sollte. Die CMA hat daher wohl auch keine Probleme mehr damit, dass Microsoft diese \u00dcbernahme anstrebt und das Ganze m\u00f6glichst schnell \u00fcber die B\u00fchne bringen m\u00f6chte.<\/p>\n<p>Die Meinungs\u00e4nderung dieser Beh\u00f6rde basiert angeblich auf dem Erhalt von neuen detaillierten Informationen. Diese Daten haben der Gruppe gezeigt, wie die Spieler von Call of Duty ihr Geld ausgeben und dieses Spiel konsumieren. Dieser Umstand hat den Entscheidungstr\u00e4gern gezeigt, dass Microsoft einen Haufen Geld verlieren w\u00fcrde, wenn es CoD zu einem Exklusivtitel macht. Das Spiel weiterhin \u00fcber die PlayStation anzubieten w\u00fcrde Microsoft sehr viel Geld machen und die Beh\u00f6rde geht davon aus, dass der Konzern nat\u00fcrlich die finanziell lohnenswerte Entscheidung treffen wird.<\/p>\n<p>Aktuell untersucht die CMA noch immer die Cloud-Gaming-Seite des Deals und die m\u00f6glicherweise damit verbundenen Auswirkungen. Wie genau die Beh\u00f6rde zu dieser Sache steht, ist aktuell nicht bekannt. Eine Erkl\u00e4rung zu diesem Punkt d\u00fcrften wir erst am 26. April 2023 erhalten. An diesem Tag m\u00f6chte die Gruppe n\u00e4mlich ihre finale Einsch\u00e4tzung zu dieser \u00dcbernahme mit der \u00d6ffentlichkeit teilen und verk\u00fcnden, ob es diesen Kauf offiziell unterst\u00fctzt.<\/p>\n<p>Auch wenn die Untersuchung des Cloud-Gamings noch immer l\u00e4uft, so hat Microsoft mit der vorl\u00e4ufigen Zustimmung aber schon einmal eine gro\u00dfe H\u00fcrde genommen. Dieser erste Erfolg spricht daf\u00fcr, dass auch der finale Bericht positiv f\u00fcr Microsoft ausfallen wird. Ansonsten hat die Firma jetzt wohl scheinbar gegen\u00fcber der UK bewiesen, dass CoD kein Problem darstellt und der Kauf nicht durch diese IP beeinflusst werden sollte. Wie genau der Konzern diese Meinungs\u00e4nderung bewirkt hat und was f\u00fcr Daten genau vorgelegt wurden, wissen aber nat\u00fcrlich nur die entsprechenden Entscheidungstr\u00e4ger.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While the CMA\u2019s original analysis indicated that this strategy would be profitable under most scenarios, new data (which provides better insight into the actual purchasing behaviour of <em>CoD<\/em> gamers) indicates that this strategy would be significantly loss-making under any plausible scenario.
